colourpop: first impressions

happy-with-colourpopI DID IT YOU GUYS!! I have been hearing so much buzz on the internet about ColourPop Cosmetics that I finally broke down and bought a few products to try for myself! Have you tried this online-only brand founded in Los Angeles in 2014?

Products I purchased from ColourPop:all-colourpop-stuff

  1. Waffle Highlighter Trio (Scrumptious, Glazed, and Flexitarian)

  2. Blush (Holiday)

  3. Ultra Matte Lip (Speed Dial)

*I also signed up for their e-mail list and got a $5 off coupon code so this all came out to $31 USD*

First Impressions:

So far, I am blown away by ColourPop! I got free shipping and my products arrived in the mail exactly a week after I ordered them. Everything I ordered came in perfect condition and the shiny, rainbow “ColourPop” sticker on the outside of the packaging was also a nice touch!

All of the cheek products also have a creamy (not powder) texture which I did not expect, but I actually really like it!

The Highlighters (Waffle Trio):

So far I love all of the things I ordered from ColourPop! Their products are waaayyy pigmented and super cheap. I’m already thinking of other things that I need to try from them.

What other ColourPop products should I try? Let me know! Xo-Ashley♥

too faced le petit trésor set.

I’ve tried my fair share of lipsticks, but it dawned on me recently that I’ve never tried any by one of my favorite brands: Too Faced. Wandering through last month I found an awesome deal on Too Faced lipsticks that I just couldn’t resist; a year or so ago Too Faced came out with a lipstick set that lets you try multiple colors without overpaying. One La Crème lipstick on their website and in stores retails $22, but this set came with an exclusive glitter bag and 3 FULL SIZE lipsticks for around $42-44! It’s like getting one for free!!!!

Swatches of the lippies

This set comes with 3 lipsticks in the shades Nude Beach (a nude peach), Taffy (a pink marshmallow nude), and Wham! (an iridescent raspberry).

Nude Beach and Taffy look very similar on my lips in these pictures, but Nude Beach has more of a brown undertone compared to the pink undertone of Taffy.

Overall, these lipsticks are very buttery in texture and glide onto the lips. Their staying power is pretty moderate so you will definitely need to carry them around during the day and reapply.

For the price, these lipsticks are gorgeous! I could use these everyday and I’m excited to try more of the colors in their lineup.

Love and lipstick xo-Ashley♥

top 5: favorite movies on netflix.

When I’m not busy with work or schoolwork, you can usually find me browsing through Netflix. I became a subscriber about a year ago and I haven’t regretted my decision ever since. These are my all-time 5 favorite movies currently available on Netflix:

  1. Begin Again

Mark Ruffalo and Keira Knightly shine in this musical adventure in NYC. Everything is coming up roses...

  2. Clueless

A ’90s classic, Alicia Silverstone is so totally clueless that even Paul Rudd can’t figure out if she’s a total bonehead.

  3. 10 Things I Hate About You

Julia Stiles may be a bitch, but Heath Ledger is so hot he could melt any cold exterior. Plus, young Joseph Gordon-Levitt is such a cutie.

  4. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days

Kate Hudson may know how to flip the switch, but Matthew McConaughey also knows how to play this game.

  5. Bridget Jones’s Diary

Renee Zellweger and two British hotties. Will it be Hugh Grant or Colin Firth? Only at the curry-turkey buffet could something this outrageous happen.

new urban decay products: hot or not?

As an avid UD Junkie, last month I ordered 2 new products from Urban Decay’s Spring 2017 lineup and I wanted to do an honest review about how they worked for me.

All Nighter Setting Spray                                      Rating: 4 out of 5 (Hot)

img_0304UD’s img_0311all nighter setting spray is definitely a dream product! A spray that keeps your makeup fresh all day? Impossible!

Enter this product: this magical spray will lock down anything you put on your face for 13+ hours!

Pros: As a dry-skinned gal myself, this product keeps me from looking “cakey” all day. One spray goes a long way! It has also kept my makeup on during a sweaty concert, a rainy day, and a long night. Oh, and did I mention the packaging is adorable?

Cons: It has a bit of a weird smell when it’s sprayed, but it goes away. And at $31 a bottle, my wallet cried a little.

Day of Testing: Take One

*13 hours +!! I applied a full-face of makeup and sprayed it at 9:40 am. 3 college classes, lunch, work, a lab, dinner, and a meeting later…my makeup still looked pretty good. It was starting to fade a little bit, but it lasted well until I took it off at 11:14 pm.*

Vice Liquid Lipstick (Trivial)                              Rating: 2 out of 5 (Not)

img_0308This was a good idea on UD’s partimg_0309, but this just didn’t live up to the hype for me. Maybe I picked the wrong shade? The shade Trivial was described on their website as a “comfort matte pink nude” but it has a sparkle to it that I did not expect. I really wanted to love this, but I just don’t.

Pros: The packaging is cute and the color does look decent when applied with a lip brush.img_0317

Cons: It doesn’t dry down all the way because of the sparkles. It also skips when you apply it with the applicator it comes with and leaves spots. The color transfers quickly and only lasts 4-5 hours at most. It also gets chunky in the center of my lips after about an hour. I’ll not going to keep it because $18 for this terrible quality isn’t worth it.

dnce live sa tx.

So, this past Friday a few friends and I went to see DNCE live in San Antonio! For those of you who have never heard of them, DNCE is basically a dance-pop group that was formed in 2015 by Joe Jonas (a former member of the Jonas Brothers). Their most popular songs are “Cake by the Ocean” and “Toothbrush”.

They were so energetic and fun during the whole concert! And as a former Jonas Brother fan, I still feel the fangirl inside of me from my youth.

You could “zoom” with me anywhere, Joe Jonas. xo-Ashley♥

what it’s really like to have mental health problems.

I know this is a serious topic but…

I would consider myself a normal person. I get up, get dressed, eat breakfast, and go off to class like any other college student. However, there is something that holds me back; you can’t see it just by looking at me. I have mental health problems. During my first semester of college at age 19 I started to feel very disconnected with myself. I didn’t like to leave my room, talk to others, sleep much, or even really eat. I started having panic attacks. I knew something was wrong but I thought I could just bury it under the surface and no one would ever know. I kept up a 4.0 amid my personal struggles to convince my parents that I was fine.

But my feelings started to change even more during the second semester. I thought that people were judging me and I was either severely depressed or anxious. There was never an in-between; no regular feelings. I either cared too much about things or didn’t care about them at all. I cried almost every night worried about events from my past or in the future. I thought about getting help sometimes but I also thought about seriously injuring myself. I hate to admit this, especially as a Christian, but I did think about suicide. That’s when I knew I had to at least say something.

The only person I was fighting was myself.

I told my Mom what had been going on in my life and she suggested that I go to counseling on campus. I was too afraid to go but I convinced her to let me see a doctor. She helped make the appointment in the summer, but I basically thought that I was “fine” and told her to cancel it everyday but she never did. I saw my general practitioner and she diagnosed me with an anxiety disorder. Yes, a disorder. She also recommended that I go to counseling and prescribed medication.

I know there is a lot of stigma about medications for mental disorders, but I decided to take it for my own well being. I take a low dosage of an antidepressant and I’m not ashamed of it. It, along with proper counseling, has helped me to stay calm and focused without worrying and feeling depressed.

I just want to say that I am not a bad person. I just happen to think a little bit differently than everyone else. I am allowed to express myself and feel the way I do. I don’t have to apologize for that. Mental illness is serious and people who don’t think it is have never experienced the turmoil that I have. Mental illness is real and I want more people to talk about it, embrace people with it, and help find answers for it. You are not in this alone-there is always someone to talk to. #nostigma
